VFX on "The 24th"

In order to create almost 250 VFX shots for "The 24th", we leaned on the Academy of Art University to build the more complex 3D models and composites required to visually set the story in 1917 Houston, Texas. The complexities around VFX for a period drama are centered in realism: if a viewer noticed them while watching the film, he or she can lose the story.

Comprised of VFX professionals and students, Studio X built the gate to the camp, an old derrick and multiplied the number of tents, to name a few of the 39 or so shots they worked on. Their efforts - along with some additional VFX artists who we brought on to eradicate various modern features we couldn’t shoot around - helped bring the Houston of 1917 to life. Check out this discussion with some of "The 24th" team and the Academy's Studio X crew to see how we got it done.
